- Major Security Flaw in PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) was reported on Friday, August 25, 2000. The problem is said to be caused by the inclusion of a key escrow feature added to PGP by Network Associates. ADK (Additional Encryption Keys) were added to the PGP program, so that government (or other third parties) could have a back door to PGP encrypted email. Unfortunately, ADK is not secure. PGP.com has posted a security advisory at: http://www.pgp.com/other/advisories/adk.asp. They are working on a bug fix, and MIT is also working on developing a freeware solution.
